The cameo is set in a slightly later silver signet ring mount that features gold pommels to the shoulders and a gold ropetwist motif around the head

with triangular facets on the pavilion designed to accentuate the shimmering orange colour play as it moves in the light

and with slightly unusual solid gold links the quality is evident before you even feel the weight

while others believe it was based on  the astronomical clock at Exeter Cathedral which had a small hole in the door below the face for the resident cat to hunt mice
